Invest in yourself, because you are worth it!

Hello, I am Dr. Jodi Niswonger

Thank you for visiting my website. I know meeting a new person can sometimes cause anxiety, so before we meet, here’s a little information about me.

I’m a licensed psychotherapist in Nevada with nearly 20 years of experience. I have helped hundreds of clients successfully achieve their therapy goals. Throughout my career, I have worked as an inpatient and outpatient clinician. I was a psychotherapist in a group practice for close to eight years, where I provided therapy for individuals (all ages), couples, families, and groups, while also conducting psychological evaluations for the state of Nevada. In 2013, I started my own private practice so I could solely focus on my passion of helping individuals and couples find happiness within themselves and their lives.

The clients that I have the pleasure to work with are smart, insightful, and self-aware people that found the courage to participate in therapy. Often, clients reach out to me because they feel stuck, unhappy, or believe they have lost their way in life. They tend to be motivated people that are willing to explore where they have been, accept where they are, and do the work it takes to get where they want to be. I truly enjoy helping clients through the process of discovering themselves and assisting them in reaching their goals. My favorite part of being a therapist is when I am fortunate enough to have a client, that I haven’t seen in years, contact me, to tell me how they are still very happy and living the amazing life they created. I feel very honored to have a career, where people trust me during the most vulnerable times in their lives. It's a true privilege to help someone through their journey from a dark place to a life full of light and fulfillment.

I moved to Las Vegas in 1998 and I have been happily married for over 22 years. Together, we raised two children that are now successful adults. I have experienced many ups and downs through the years, and I understand how difficult life can be. This is why I feel so passionate about helping others get through life’s challenges. In my free time, I love to have fun with my family, try new creative activities, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time with my little Maltese, Chloe.

I have discovered most of the time, people know the life they want to live, they just aren't sure how to get it. I believe my empathy and compassion for others is what inspired me to become a helping professional. My extensive education and many years of clinical experience is what has made me a successful one. I have a Ph.D., an M.S.W., and I am a L.C.S.W. in Nevada. I am also a Certified Trauma Specialist, and I am certified in EMDR for trauma treatment.

Why Telehealth?

Prior to the Pandemic, I never would have thought about being a telehealth therapist. When I was forced to move my practice online, instead of in person, I encountered a huge learning curve. Through research, experimentation, and upgraded technology, I learned how to provide the same quality therapeutic experience online, that I offered in person. I learned how to provide successful online therapy and online trauma work, including EMDR.

I anticipated returning to in person therapy, but then I learned how much my clients like online appointments. They explained telehealth is a lot more convenient for them. In fact, they pointed out, they can keep their therapy appointments even when life happens. This allows them to have their therapy session during their lunch hour at work, at home with their children, while out of town, and sometimes it just lets them stay comfy on their couch with their pet. They are also grateful to avoid traffic and reduce their gas expense. In order to protect my client’s privacy, I use secure, confidential, HIPAA approved software, along with a hard-wired internet connection for my telehealth sessions.

Therapy Session Fees

  • Individual Therapy Intake (Initial Session) $200

  • Individual Therapy Session $150

  • Couples Therapy Intake (Initial Session) $250

  • Couples Therapy Session $200

  • EMDR Session (75 minutes) $200

I am no longer in-network with any insurance companies. I made this decision, because being in-network with insurance companies means I have to give every client a diagnosis. Insurance companies will not pay insurance claims unless, a client is diagnosed, and the diagnosis is on the list of payable disorders. Insurance companies are also able to access client records, dictate treatment, determine necessity of treatment, and the number of sessions a client is allowed to have.  A lot of people choose to participate in therapy to better themselves, their relationships, and their lives. Typically, these concerns won’t meet criteria for a clinical diagnosis, which is required for insurance to pay for treatment. I want people to know they can participate in therapy without making their treatment part of their permanent medical record or have their information released to their employer. I prefer to collaborate with my clients regarding their needs, the number of sessions they believe are helpful, while maintaining their complete privacy and confidentiality.

If you would prefer to use insurance and you have out of network benefits, I am happy to create a monthly Superbill for you to provide your insurance company, requesting full or partial reimbursement. Please realize, I will have to diagnosis you (provided you meet clinical criteria), to create a Superbill and I am not responsible for any reimbursement issues between you and your insurance company.

Do you accept insurance?
